"The Resting Founder"
A lone prospector, following his instincts for what lay beneath the ground by the appearance of what lay on top, wandered in to the hills, miles from protection and provisions for days at a time. The fever of finding the earth's treasures far outweighed the risk of death at the hands of nearby indians. His discovery gave birth to the frenzy of wealth seekers and all the drama that unfolded around them in what became the town of Tombstone. Just 2 miles outside of town, on a bluff overlooking the Dragoon Mountains 9 miles distant, Ed Schieffelin is buried as requested in the traditional prospector's clothing. His grave stone, built in the fashion of an oversized mining claim marker, stands under the approaching monsoon clouds of south eastern Arizona's summer months.
